Silent Echoes: Bill Fontana

As part of Project Factory’s efforts to bring connection, collaboration and celebration to Wells, we have invited Bill Fontana to engage our sense and bring his sound sculpture to Wells Cathedral.

Bill Fontana is an internationally known sound artist who has brought his sound artistry and acoustic vision to life at iconic places such as the Golden Gate Bridge and the Tate Modern. He also most recently brought the music of Parisian life to the silenced bells of Notre Dame after the tragic fire.

We are excited to bring his Notre Dame installation Silent Echoes to Wells Cathedral for you to experience. We invite you to support this and our future creative and collaborative efforts by donating to the Factory. We need your support to bring this, as well as future celebrations to our community.

The Antony Gormley Project

Now that DOUBT 2020 has its new home, we hope that you will get an opportunity to see it.

You can help us make the most of this opportunity for Wells.

With thanks to our generous donors and sponsors we have secured the funds to secure, install and transport the sculpture.

We now have plans to get the community and schools fully involved and to support school visits to the programme of workshops and tours devised by Wells Cathedral, Wells Museum and The Bishop’s Palace with bursaries. To date we have supported four schools and 250 children. We are subsidising the CHATS talks with free tickets for students and access to the livestream link.

All funds raised for the ‘Gormley Project’ are ring-fenced in the Project Factory project account and budgets and expenditure are overseen by a steering group. The steering group is chaired by Chancellor of the Cathedral Rob James, and includes Jez Fry, Clerk of the Works, Jackie Croft, Administrator, Sue Isherwood, Chair of the Wells & Mendip Museum, Paddy O’Hagan, Chair of Wells Art Contemporary, Merryn Kidd and Andy Webb of Wells Heritage Partners/Visit Wells, Bill Lloyd, Head of Programming at Cedars Hall and the Niche_338 and Project Factory teams.

Your donation that will ensure we can brings schools to Wells and develop a community arts programme!
