Presents

Tosca & The Barber of Seville

Tosca 14th July 2022

Giacomo Puccini’s romantic opera Tosca is a tale of passion and jealousy as its heroine Tosca, a fiery opera singer, fights to save her lover Cavaradossi from the villain of the piece, the police chief Scarpia.

Tosca is one of the most lethal operas. None of the central characters make it to the end alive, hero or villain. Unsurprisingly then, it's a thrilling melodrama often dismissed as one dimensional. However you would be foolish to go in with this attitude. Opera Brava have set this production in Rome in the 1940's during the war and they take Puccini's overtly theatrical tale and make it astonishingly moving with an unusual twist in the final death scene.

The Barber of Seville

The Barber of Seville, by Gioachino Rossini, is a comedy. Its story tells of the mischievous escapades of Figaro, the barber, as he helps Count Almaviva to prise the beautiful Rosina from the clutches of her lecherous guardian, Dr Bartolo. Both will be sung in English.

This fantastic production by Bronek Pomorski brings out the Champagne Fizz of the music and will capture your heart as Count Almaviva aided by his good friend Figaro manages to woo his love Rosina away from her wicked guardian Dr Bartolo. Thousands of people saw this work when it toured the country last year and many have asked to see it again.

Tickets £35 per adult. Children (Under 16) £10
