Once Upon a Time — Wells Lantern Festival 2027

Step into a world of stories, legends and fairy tales as Wells comes together for a celebration of light, music and creativity.

Join us on Saturday 16 January 2027 at 6.30pm, beginning inside Wells Cathedral before heading outdoors for a lantern-lit parade through the city. Bring a lantern you’ve made, give an old favourite another outing, or simply come along to enjoy the atmosphere.

Weather and Cathedral admission

In wet weather, the whole festival event will take place inside the Cathedral. The Cathedral sets attendance limits for safety, so admission cannot be guaranteed. If capacity is reached, you may be unable to enter or take part.

A workshop booking does not reserve a place at the parade or guarantee Cathedral admission. Please check our website before travelling for any changes or cancellation updates.

Please use battery-operated lights only — no candles or naked flames.
